On Saturday, 17th January 2026, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Phillip Watts, joined The First 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟔𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟏𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐞, a truly inspiring celebration under the theme “𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.”
The Minister extended heartfelt thanks to 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and the wider 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 for their continued investment in sport and for providing a premier platform that honours our national athletes and sporting icons. The evening was especially significant as over 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 were recognised for outstanding achievement, while four sporting legends were posthumously inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame, powerfully underscoring the enduring legacy of those who have elevated Trinidad and Tobago on the regional and international stage.
The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, in collaboration with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the structures that support athlete development, youth engagement, and sporting excellence nationwide, and values deeply the partnership with entities such as First Citizens in this mission. The Minister also conveyed sincere appreciation to the organisers, sponsors, awardees, Hall of Fame inductees’ families, officials, and all who contributed to a seamless and dignified ceremony, an unforgettable evening that celebrated achievement, honoured legacy, and uplifted the national spirit as our sporting “𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.”
